Marilyn Manson reaches No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Rock Albums chart for the first time, as We Are Chaos crowns the list dated Sept. 26.
We Are Chaos bows with 31,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Sept. 17, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Of that sum, 28,000 units are from album sales.
The venerable band, led by its frontman of the same name, had previously reached No. 2 on Top Rock Albums, which began in 2006. The High End of Low and Heaven Upside Down debuted and peaked in the runner-up spot in 2009 and 2017, respectively.
We Are Chaos also becomes Marilyn Manson’s fifth total and consecutive No. 1 on Hard Rock Albums, dating to The High End of Low in 2009. Only Five Finger Death Punch, Linkin Park and Pearl Jam, with six apiece, have more leaders.
On the all-format Billboard 200, We Are Chaos is Marilyn Manson’s third straight full-length to debut at No. 8, and the group’s 10th top 10 in all, a total that includes two No. 1s: 1998’s Mechanical Animals and 2003’s The Golden Age of Grotesque.
Concurrently, three songs from We Are Chaos reach the multi-metric Hot Hard Rock Songs chart, paced by the title-track lead single, which zooms to No. 4. “Don’t Chase the Dead” (No. 5) and “Red Black and Blue” (No. 22) both debut.
“We Are Chaos” and “Don’t Chase the Dead” also enter the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart at Nos. 45 and 49, respectively.
“We Are Chaos” returns to its No. 14 high on the Mainstream Rock Songs airplay survey and jumps 43-33 on the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock Airplay tally with 1.2 million audience impressions, up 18 percent.
