Tina Modotti (1896-1942) was a fascinating character. Born in Italy, she moved to the west coast of the USA and began working as an actress and model. Within a few years she took up photography and then moved to Mexico, where she became involved in politics. Her portraits are often atmospheric and intense, such as this one of the printmaker María Marín de Orozco taken in 1925.
