Carrie Prejean sues Miss California

Carrie Prejean, dismissed Miss California USA, is suing the pageant organization for religious discrimination.

Carrie Prejean and Shanna Moakler in happier timesThought you’d heard the last of intolerant, small-minded dethroned beauty queen Carrie Prejean?

Think again. The often-difficult and opinionated Prejean has filed suit against the Miss California USA organization, claiming she was forced out because of her religious beliefs.

Prejean was uncrowned two months after giving a speech against gay marriage during the Miss USA pageant. The organization, headed by Donald
Trump, originally opted to keep her on despite public outrage.

She was finally given the axe after pageant officials claim she missed dozens of contractual public appearances. But the former model claims her firing was due to one thing and one thing only: her
religious views.

She accuses Shanna Moakler and Keith Lewis, along with other members of the pageant group, of religious discrimination, defamation, public
disclosure of private facts, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

Prejean claims pageant officials, “fabricated a fraudulent list of some 50 public appearances allegedly missed by Prejean which they released to the media in order to justify her termination as
Miss California USA.”

In addition, the suit also says officials tried to “set up Prejean to have her dismissed as Miss California USA by asking her to do a Playboy photo shoot for $120,000.” In fact, as previously published emails show, Lewis merely advised Prejean of the pitch after she insisted on seeing every offer sent to the group.

Reps for the pageant group stand by their assertion that Prejean was canned for missing public appearances and not getting permission for
her extracurricular activities in which she defended her anti-gay marriage stance while using her Miss California title.
