Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar

Perfect for beginners, this guitar delivers the great tone and features of a Les Paul but keeps the price affordable. It features a 650R pickup for the nek and 700T pickup for the bridge.

Since it's introduction almost 20 years ago, The Special-II has met the needs of countless musicians with it's combination of Les Paul features, great tone and affordability. Now, Epiphone puts a new twist on this classic with the new Special-II GT. Like the Special-II, this is a full-on, in your face rockin' machine with all the same features (and more) that you've come to expect from Epiphone.

High-Out Ceramic Pickups
Providing the sizzle and snarl that you can only get from humbuckers is a 650R (neck) and 700T (bridge) pickup combo. You'll be amazed how these U.S.A. designed pickups with their high-output magnets add more highs with increased definition and no muddiness. Slightly over-wound, the hotter 700T bridge pickup is smooth but can give you a little extra scream or growl when you need it while never losing its rich combination of enhanced lows and crystal clear highs.

Cool New Electronics
Always an innovator, Epiphone has equipped the GT with a patent-applied-for combination Master Tone and Kill Switch. Operating just like an ordinary tone pot, if you push or "tap" it down it acts as a kill switch muting all output signal and creating a cool effect (think Buckethead) when combined with distortion. Is that a whammy bar? Yes it is! Epiphone has equipped the new GT with a vintage style tremolo what allows you to bend strings and chords with ease. Typically not found on Les Paul guitar, this combined with the kill-switch, this guitar can create amazing effects - all read more at a price that won't break your budget.

The Whole GT Package
Other features include a tapered heel for more comfortable access in the upper frets, Epiphone's patent-applied-for LockTone(tm) tune-o-matic/stopbar combination for re-stringing ease and increased sustain and of course, their Limited Lifetime Warranty with 24/7/365 Customer Service. Top it all off with a Rosewood fingerboard upgraded with pearloid parallelogram inlays and 22 medium-jumbo frets. With this GT's singlecutaway design and a contoured, recessed bolt neck, all 22 of those frets are easy to access and it's SlimTaper(tm) neck profile make it comfortable and fast. Wrap it all up in a thin "worn" black finish that feels vintage all with a price tag that any guitarist can afford and you've got a new Epiphone classic made just for you.

I think the Special II GT is going to last a long time and I don't see replacing it for another, because every feature I will ever need it right here (tremelo, tone control kill switch, easy to upgrade humbuckers, etc.)

Sound
After hearing the Special II GT played at a club by a local band, and researching prices online, I decided this is the electric guitar for me. I do not perform in a band, only at home. Not only does it sound good for rock, but also country and blues too. I am learning some new age (soundscapes) music and it gives that easy going flow an enhanced sound. I am still using the strings that came on the guitar, they sound good out of the box, but will probably change to some others soon to see how they sound. The humbuckers are really good too. I haven't used the tremelo too much yet, I don't have that much experience with it. That was another factor in buying this guitar. It already has this feature that I can learn with. For me, it has plenty of features already, with the ability to upgrade later and not have to buy another electric and start again from scratch.

Features
It has a six or eight foot cord included, but I purchased a twenty foot cable so I can sit across the room and enjoy the sound even more. The cord included looks like a good quality one though. I like the kill switch incorporated into the tone control, it sounds really good. I don't know of any other features I would read more need.

Ease of Use
This is an easy electric to play. I think it would be a good one to learn on too and would last for a long time. It's built very sturdy and not too heavy at all. Get a good strap and some strap locks, and you are all set.

Quality
The finish is very good, I would call it the Goth look, I guess. It's not real shiny, kind of the matte finish. There were no loose parts on mine at all, it looks like the factory did a good job of checking everything out. I have just started with this guitar, but think it is going to be very reliable for a long time to come. I think it would be a good one for a band member to take on the road (with a hard case of course). I don't see anything that could be described as the worst aspect of the quality. I'm happy with the quality.

Value
I believe this guitar is well worth it's price as compared to other electrics with more features on it out of the box and into your hands.

Manufacturer Support
No customer service issues with Epiphone yet, so I can't comment on the level of service.

The Wow Factor
This guitar looks good, plays good and not too heavy. Just put one in your hands and play.
