Marilyn Manson was born Brian Hugh Warner on January 5, 1969 and chose his stage name to show the disturbing dualism of American culture, naming himself after Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson. Manson grew up in Ohio, and was in two bands before forming his own in 1989.
In 1993 Marilyn Manson (the band) came to the attention of Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, who then produced their debut album, Portrait of an American Family (1994). Nine albums have followed, to date.
Manson began appearing in films, as well. An early role was in David Lynch’s Lost Highway (1997). He appeared in Party Monster (2003) and Rise (2007). He’s playing Lewis Carroll in Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll (2007). Manson has also written and performed numerous songs for soundtracks.
Manson began dating burlesque artist Dita Von Teese in 2001; they married in 2005 and split in 2006. Manson is reportedly dating the young actress Evan Rachel Wood.
