The 2016 Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s heavenly (well, mostly) rock opera has moved, er, inside. It feels very different to see the rock-star element of this show, directed by Timothy Sheader, contained within Barbican concrete. It’s as if Glastonbury had suddenly encased itself inside a very comfortable bunker.

I am a fan of this 1970 musical with its complicated tunes and brilliant lyrics, and this production has a swagger that appeals. The set, by Tom Scutt, feels monumental; all rusting towers and a huge diagonal cross runway for the Romans to sashay down with their spears and masks. The band, encased on the top floor, is brassy and brilliant.
