Nude art in Vienna stadium

Well over 1000 people responded to US artist Spencer Tunick's latest invitation, this time to pose in a group nude shot in Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadium to celebrate the beginning of another international soccer event.

Spencer Tunick is an artist whose medium is literally naked human bodies. He has made massive group nude photos since the early nineties in various locations worldwide including London, Melbourne, Duesseldorf and many more.

Most recently, more than 1800 volunteers posed for over six hours stark naked in Ernst Happel Stadium in the name of art and soccer. The work is planned especially to coincide with the European Championship.

One of Tunick's most ambitious installations was in Mexico City where Tunick arranged approximately 18,000 nudes on the Zócalo.

Astonishingly, Tunick is also said to have made a photograph featuring the naked body of reclusive street artist Banksy in Byron Bay, Australia.

Although the photos are of naked bodies, they are not intended to be sexual or pornographic. "There is a sensual element to it, but it's not a sexual experience," Tunick told the BBC.
